Position Overview

As a Senior Accountant at Colson Strategies, you’ll play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of clients while mentoring teammates and improving systems and processes that help our firm run smarter. This role combines hands-on accounting expertise with proactive client partnership and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Client Partnership & Advisory

  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for your portfolio of clients.

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships through proactive communication and reliable follow-through.

  • Develop a deep understanding of each client’s operations to anticipate needs and identify risks.

  • Assist the Controller and/or CFO to provide clear financial insights and recommendations that help clients make smarter business decisions.

Accounting Operations

  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records across multiple clients.

  • Oversee day-to-day AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities.

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes with precision.

  • Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with GAAP.

  • Continuously refine and document accounting procedures to increase efficiency and consistency.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Support junior team members through review, feedback, and mentoring.

  • Collaborate across teams using Asana, Slack, and shared workspaces to ensure visibility and accountability.

  • Contribute to internal projects that strengthen client experience and firm operations.

  • Engage in team meetings, share knowledge, and contribute to collaborative problem-solving.

CoMPLIANCE & TECHNICAL MASTERY

  • Stay current on accounting standards, compliance requirements, and best practices.

  • Maintain strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Gusto, Asana, and Google Workspace.

  • Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with internal security standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; outsourced, client-facing, or multi-entity experience preferred.

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.

  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel/Google Sheets.

  • Tech and remote communication-savvy and eager to learn new systems.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Self-starter who can work independently while staying aligned with team goals and values.

    Bonus Points: Experience working in an accounting firm, particularly providing bookkeeping support for multiple clients, is highly valued. Background across a variety of industries is also a strong plus.
